The vocabulary rather than the workflow. For the walkthrough, see
Getting started.
File
- Input Folder… — choose the folder your photographs are
in. SaltPrint lists everything it can read there: raw files, TIFF, PNG,
JPEG, HEIC. It doesn't look inside sub-folders.
- Destination Folder… — where finished negatives are
written. Left alone, SaltPrint uses a
SaltPrint Output folder
beside your photographs.
- Recent Input Folders / Recent Destination
Folders — the last few of each.
- Settings… — language, appearance, updates. On a Mac
this lives in the SaltPrint menu instead.
Detail.
- Quit — closes the app. Per-frame edits are already
saved.
Frame
- Undo — steps back through edits to the current frame,
naming what it will undo (“Undo Exposure”). Edits are per frame, so this
never reaches across to another photograph.
- Redo — puts back what you just undid.
Correction Curve
Full detail on correction curves.
- Curve Builder Wizard… — print a 21-step target, expose
and process it, scan it back, and it builds a curve from what actually
happened.
- Manual Curve… — shape one by hand.
- Import curve file… — bring in a curve you already
have.
- Manage curves… — rename or delete the curves you've
made.
Tonal Scale
- Compare tonal scales… — the test sheet that answers
which tone makes the best negative on your kit.
Basic compares the tones you can
pick; Advanced walks the whole
colour wheel.
- Exposure test ladder… — how long to expose, and whether
the tone changes the answer.
The ladder.
- The tone list — the same tones as the picker in the Make
block, as menu items. Both are bound to the same setting, so they can't
disagree.
- Measured shades — the 48 shades from the Advanced sheet,
addressed
1a to 12d. The address printed on the
sheet is the address here.
Resources
Two references worth having open while you print. They open in your browser
and send nothing.
- Mike Ware — Alternative Photography — the chemistry and
history of the processes, from someone who has measured them properly.
Several of SaltPrint's built-in curves are shaped from his published gamma
work.
- Digital Truth — Massive Dev Chart — film development
times, for the film half of the workflow.
Help
- SaltPrint Help… — opens these pages.
- About SaltPrint — version and build number (worth
quoting in a bug report), credits, and the privacy note.
- What's New — the release notes for the version you're
running. Shown once automatically after an update; this is how to get back
to them.
- Report a bug… — composes an email with your version
filled in. What it sends.
- License agreement… — the licence you accepted on first
run. Also published here.
- Answer the survey… — a few questions about your
process. What it sends.
- Check for Updates… — asks now rather than at next
launch.
- Show action log — opens the folder holding SaltPrint's
record of destructive actions, so it's readable after the app has
quit.
